Here are images of another of the Shorebid group - Surfbird, Aphriza virgata. Surfbird is slightly larger than Turnstone, still smaller than Oystercatcher, and also frequents the splash zone. You will frequently see him foraging in the same places that Oystercatcher and Turnstone like. Like Turnstone, Surfbird is well camoflaged and blends into his surroundings exceedingly well. Here again the easiest sightings are when Surfbird is flying. Note the dramatic markings on the wings. Not quite as dramatic as Turnstone but certainly not shabby either.
