Azaleas are part of the larger Rhodoendrum family of plants. Because gardeners have loved this plant for hundreds of years, there are literally thousands of different cultivars of Azalea. Conventional wisdom has it that they like to be in partial to full shade, but here in The Ranch you will find our wild Azaleas growing profusely in full sunshine. Another difference between our wild azaleas and the average garden variety is that ours can be a lot bigger.

Azalea

Like the rest of the Rhododendron family, Azaleas can be quite toxic so please don't nibble on any of our flowers. They are enjoyed best if left to themselves in the wild. You will find them in bloom in the Spring in open areas on our hllsides and meadows.

Here in The Ranch, an Azalea is a Rhododendron with more slightly smaller flowers.
