From Oregon and Washington

If you are planning to travel from Oregon or Washington there are two main highways to consider in planning your trip – U.S. Highway 101 and Interstate Highway 5. Which one you take is dependent on a wide variety of considerations, but generally speaking Interstate Highway 5 will move you south through Washington and Oregon faster than Highway 101. Once you are in California you have to start moving west toward the coast.

The most direct route from Highway 5 is to turn west at Grants Pass, Oregon, on Highway 199 and follow it to Highway 101 at Crescent City, California.

If you are already on Highway 101 just stay on it and follow the directions below:

Follow Highway 101 through the redwoods to California State Highway 1 at Leggett. Highway 1 will take you over the coastal range to the Pacific Ocean a few miles north of Westport.
Follow Highway 1 down the coast through Fort Bragg and a number of small villages to The Sea Ranch.

A note of caution in planning how far you will be driving and how long it will take. The roads that you will be using after Leggett are all two lane and are not conducive to speed. This is a trip that should be savored slowly rather than gulped down voraciously. Also be careful when using the online mapping services – they are not reliable for travel in many parts of the coastal region. An old fashioned AAA paper map is recommended.

When we send you your email confirmation we will include these driving directions.
Be careful – we recommend that you not use any of the online map services for directions to our part of the world. They frequently recommend roads that are on the map, but are not suitable for travel.
